The Sixth Day
In 1940s Cairo, the city is plagued with cholera and an ongoing occupation. Siddiqa spends her days caring for her wheelchair-bound husband and her grandson, and thwarting the attentions of the charming and much younger Okka, who makes a living performing tricks with his monkey for children.
Although she never takes Okka seriously, she reluctantly turns to him for help when her grandson catches cholera. In their evolving friendship, Siddiqa finds joy and warmth; a caring yet challenging companion who helps her across the turbulent journey to the sixth day, on which it is said the patient either gives in or makes it through.
